9) Joy Leduc
Her performance in a little made for TV Movie called Champions: A Love Story that came out in 1979 has stuck with me through all these years. (It's similar to the movie, "The Fault In Our Stars") A couple days ago, I saw a few clips on Youtube and I was like, Hmm, I see why I liked her then. Baby had back, and cute. And she looks awesome now - according to her husband of decades, she's the most beautiful, wonderful person on the planet. That's super cool.
8) Bern Nardette Stanis
Oh boy, oh Boy oh boy, in the words of KC and The Sunshine Band, That's the way I Like it. :) Do You remember when she guest starred on The Love Boat? I actually saw her in person at the Harlem Book Fair, promoting her books on relationships. And She should know, married for decades. Congratulations. Thank you for the Good Times. :)
7) Kristy McNichol
How could anyone who grew up in the 70's, watched the show Family and not like Buddy? And if you grew up in the 70's and didn't watch Family, please go take a shower. :).
6) Natalie Merchant
The Ultimate woman, a real woman, what a woman. Her passion, tenderness, raison d'etre comets in and around her body. She's one of the rare humans who's Aura is visible from every perspective of the universe at any space and time. She has a new project celebrating "Tigerlilly", feturing a re-recording of the album along with a film on the project. It will be interesting to see her mindset on the songs then and now and her approach in their rebirth, re-offering.
5) Kris Delmhorst
Her voice gives me goosebumps, literally, I kid you not. In such songs as Hurricane, Hummingbird, Bobby Lee, Wasted Word, Since You Went Away - and in the band Redbird with her husband - their renditions of You are everything and Buckets of rain,- her parts stop me in my track. I love that she's married with family and still manages to find time to be inspired, and go out on the road with her own band and with Redbird. Can't wait for a collaboration album between her and husband Jeff Foucault.
4) Jemele Hill
She's a guy's gal, and she's cute, smart, fair (in her arguments) funny, sunny smile, keeps it real, knows what's up, takes no crap, very professional, passionate about her craft. But she's not a good dancer, and neither am I. If you have not her shoe His And Hers with Michael A. Smith. You're missing out.
3) Jill Tartar
From the first time I read about about her and watched her interviews, I was gushed in wonderment - Wondering how amazing it would be to talk and have a conversation with her, thee Jill Tarter. Even as I'm writing this entry, the wonder still bubbles. What an amazing, brilliant person. I actually was once proposed to by a research scientist. I was not ready for re-marriage and well, let's just say and... :)
If you have not seen the movie Contact with Jodie Foster, Please do so. It's inspired and based on Jill's research and passion.
2) Kellita Smith
Yes Bernie Mac was a very funny man and the Bernie Mac show was a more real depiction of upwardly mobile Black families than The Cosby Show. Wait, is the word upwardly mobile still in circulation? But it was all about Kellita for me. Every time she came on screen, I got a little closer to the TV Set, thinking, Bernie, Bernie, how do you deal with this? In that show, she was just pure sex. I understand she's done other work since then, watching them would ruin my visual and memory of that show. Thank you Bernie!
1) Rachel Ward
I loved the mini series The Thornbirds, and to me, her as Meggie made the story. She stepped out in the Movie Against All Odds, a cool picture that most people only know the theme song to, which was nominated for an Academy award. I like the fact that she didn't play the Hollywood game and most of all that she and Bryan Brown are still married after all these years.
It's the first time that I've ever put such a list together and seriously thought about why I'm attracted to these people that I've never met and have no idea who and how they are in real life. It looks like I'm a very predictable guy. All these great ladies could actually be the same person. Aside to the physical attraction, They are all passionate, smart, expressive, grounded, family oriented, fun, and committed. I wish them all continued success in their crafts tied with a bow of joy and peace.
